The North Carolina Angus Association’s Down East Sale was held Saturday, November 7, 2009 at the Sampson County Livestock Arena in Clinton, North Carolina. A big thank you goes out to Roy Outlaw committee chairman, and the entire Down East Sale committee for bringing together a great group of consignments.
Friday was a cool, beautiful fall day. We had twenty lots of exceptional registered Angus cattle, four lots of purebred yearling heifers and twenty lots of crossbred heifers, bred to an Angus bull. Fred Dufour from Clinton has returned to school and decided to disperse his Angus cattle. There were twenty-four lots of registered cows and twenty-one lots of purebred 18-month-old bulls and heifers. We also had four lots of donkeys.
Panther Creek Farms and SEE Performance Tested Genetics, LLC had consigned flushes from their top donor cows and also yearling heifer calves, these lots sold as lots 1 & 2. The pregnancies averaged $1,600 and the heifers averaged $1,800 and were purchased by Bear Swamp Angus, Faison, NC
There were six lots of cow/calf pairs topped by lot 3X & 3XA consigned by Keaton Vandemark, Vandemark Angus of Spring Hope. Lot 3X was an OCC Missing Link 830M daughter with an April bull calf by OCC No Fault 901N. The lot sold for $2,100.00 to James Grant, Kendleton, Texas. The cow/calf pairs averaged $1,533.

Lot 15 was a Bar EXT Traveler 205 daughter and lot 16 was a GAR Expectation 4915 daughter, they were both pasture exposed to his herd bull, which is a SAF Strategy 9015 son. Dick Mills Farms, Ayden purchased both of them for $1,350 each.
One bred heifer brought $1000; she was consigned by Darryl Howard, Howard Brothers Farms, Autryville. Lot 19 was a Summitcrest High Prime OH29 granddaughter, bred to Rito 6934 of Rita 2K4 RP. C. Roberts Farm LLC, Tarheel, purchased her.
Steve Grady Farms, Mt Olive consigned twenty crossbred heifers due to calve early 2010. Ten sold for $1,050 each with five going to Vandemark Farms, Spring Hope and five going to Shelton Southerland, Seven Springs.
The four young heifers sold to C Roberts Farm, LLC, Tarheel and Ray Lowry, Rowland.
We also had four donkeys, which sold for an average of $200 each.
Volume buyers were Ray Lowry of Rowland, Shelton Southerland of Seven Springs and Braxton Rouse also of Seven Springs. Thank you gentlemen!
Total sale gross was $89,215.00.
Thank you to the consigners and the buyers for making this another successful sale. The consigners worked hard to bring some of the most current and top genetics to the sale. Again this year E.B Harris auctioned the sale. Thanks to Joe Hampton for the color comments; to Steve McPherson, and Darryl Howard for being ring men. Thanks to Bettie Garner, Brenda Vinson, Donna Ingram, Courtney and Chelsea Outlaw for helping clerking the sale.
A thank you goes out to everyone who helped the Down East Committee with this year’s. Plans are already underway for 2010. So make plans now to be in Clinton the first Saturday in November.
